We really haven’t made any contact with other cruisers. Charters tend to be groups of 4-8 and stay together. There are a couple of families with kids but they stick to themselves. So we met some workers.
We chatted with Jelly at Rudy’s Marketplace – bar and grocery store. This was her first day on the job as a cashier. She was from St. Vincent.
At Corsairs bar and restaurant we chatted with Vinnie, the owner since 2003. He was wearing a Sturgis shirt. Turns out he lives there. He also has a home in Colorado outside Denver. Previously he would only be in the BVI 6 months each year. Since the hurricane he has had to spend more time here. He had something on a cord around his neck. It is a monocle he uses to read his phone.
Clint is the bartender, recently transplanted from Louisiana. It took about 4 months to get his work permit processed. He lives in a “man camp” a short walk away. We wondered how these businesses were staffed with “non-belongers”.
