Highbourne Cay is about 30 km southeast of the charter based at Palm Cay on Nassau so many make it their first stop. Protected basin. Slips restaurant and other amenities.
All of the 35 staff live on the island. And a parrot Luanna who lives in a cage by the dock. The cage door is open most of the day so she seems to come and go as she pleases.
Bar was open when we got styled. Lovely open building with a great view of the harbor and nearby islands. The restaurant was very good. Seafood linguini and sea bass for mains and of course conch fritters to start.
This is also a resort with accommodations beach access and nature trail.
Still pretty wind but it is going down and shifting to south and west so getting back to Palm Cay may not happen until Christmas Day.
We continue to be amazed by the large power boats that come and go out of these marinas. Many are 89-100 ft with several crew and big speed boats as tenders. Not sure about who are charter guests or owners.
Dec 24. Wind has shifted but still very windy. Cooler too. Now we are being blown off the dock. May be lighter tomorrow to return to Nassau. Might make Christmas dinner reservation. Or not. A few brave souls heading out today. They should be ok if heading south.
Many more charter boats are catamarans often with a paid local captain. Much more frequent here than in the BVI.
Could’ve. Should’ve. Left Florida and made our way south before the winter weather and storms started up. There is a good reason why many folks wait until March to cruise in the Bahamas. They get miserable winters here too.
Good news. Water maker does a dandy job. However it does take a lot of power. In a nice bright sunny day that is no problem. Overcast really impacts the solar input to the batteries. Today is bright and sunny so the solar is busy catching up.
It never fails. People ask me for directions everywhere. Here is no different. A guy asked where the workshop is. Interesting question. The island is pretty much on its own so there are stores of parts beyond the marina and equipment for road repairs. So having access to a workshop is essential. Location is different. Logistics are the same as Geoff’s Alaska projects.
Merry Christmas. We are out of here. On our way back to Palm Cay in Nassau and dinner at the restaurant.
