One of the big treats with sailing vacations is eating dinner out in the cockpit. One of the biggest problems on the other Cassandra was the lack of a really good cockpit light.
Some of the charter boats had permanent outside lighting. Some owners had rigged lights in a basket on a cord that ran through a port and plugged into the 12 volt outlet. We never found an adequate solution so we ate in the dark or by a poor substitute done with a flashlight.
We were privileged to be at a reception for Tech Awards finalists when one honoree had created solar powered LED lights that could be used in homes in Nepal to allow kids to read after dark and get a better education.
Now we are the beneficiaries of that same technology. Inflatable solar powered cockpit lights. We have one of the cute little Luci lights. A solar panel and LED light assembly in an inflatable clear plastic enclosure. Works like a champ. Mounting strap over the top so we can hang it from the Bimini frame.
I guess we are really in a cruising state of mind when this is a big deal.
