Overnight at anchor. Wellsely the dock master was on duty by 7:30. Fuel was available and tanks were filled.
A power boat named Boatel with a Toronto hailing port was at the dock. Owners Diane and Ted came out to see if they could help and offered breakfast and coffee. Of course we graciously accepted their kind offer. They operate Boatel.ca in Toronto at the foot of Spadina from June through September. Then they come to the Bahamas.
This year they brought a boatload- literally of stuff for local residents hard hit by Dorian. Everything from tools to household items. Sets of dishes. Sheets and towels. School supplies. And toys for Christmas. In addition they have been helping rebuild some of the homes that were severely damaged. The outpouring of support is amazing.
We heard more about the extent of the damage nearby. Cat 5 hurricane took roofs and windows out and then the rain soaked everything inside. There was some flooding from storm surge in low areas. Repairs a re being made but it is a slow process. There are no ATMs or banks on Green Turtle so cash is a problem. The community is pitching in so people are getting help.
We had brought a few things – Christmas stockings, holiday napkins and a few other items that we left to be passed along to the family. It doesn’t make up for years of kids’ tree ornaments that were lost in the storm.
We started off for Eleuthera but turned back. The high winds and seas seem to have come in earlier than forecast.
Good news. Mike got the water maker working. Just one of several outstanding mysteries to be worked through.
We found the pin for the boom lying on the net. Amazing. With the help of a Bolt and man-power from Felix at Spanish Cay we are back in business without the actual pin. But it is good to have found it.
We have some internet service with Google Fi. This is a terrific service. Thanks #2 kid for the recommendation. Uploading pictures will have to wait until we have actual WiFi.
